Internet & Campus Climate

The Internet and Campus Climate working group was formed by a group of UIUC faculty, graduate students, and staff members. The goals of the group are to benchmark and improve the campus climate as perceived by racialized groups; conduct research on the “cyberbullying” and “cyberhatred” (i.e., internet postings that demean, insult, or threaten groups or individuals at UIUC); and assess successful programs that improve campus climate. One specific current focus is to determine the nature and scope of campus-related racial incidents that that utilize new technologies. Research in this area documents the impact of interpersonal and virtual racial hazing/ harassment/ insensitivity/bullying on campus climates.
